11 stabbed at Walmart in Michigan’s Traverse City, suspect in custody
At least 11 people were stabbed at a Walmart in northern Michigan’s Traverse City on Saturday, and the suspect is in custody, authorities said. Munson Medical Center, the region’s largest hospital in northern Michigan, confirmed via social media that it was treating 11 victims from the incident as of Saturday evening.
The hospital has not disclosed the conditions of those injured but said it would provide updates “as appropriate.” Following the incident, a fire truck, several police vehicles, and uniformed first responders were seen outside the Traverse City Walmart.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, while the Michigan State Police urged the public to avoid the area while inquiries continue. “Details are limited,” the agency posted, emphasising the active nature of the investigation.
Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington said the company is cooperating with law enforcement and referred further questions to the authorities.
As of Saturday night, police had not released a possible motive or further information about the suspect.
Traverse City, a northern Michigan City of about 16,000 residents, is located approximately 255 miles northwest of Detroit and 150 miles north of Grand Rapids.
