4 dead, 10 wounded in shooting during family gathering at California banquet hall
Four people were killed and ten others injured when gunmen opened fire during a family gathering at a banquet hall in Stockton, Northern California, on Sunday, an attack authorities say early signs suggest was targeted.
ATTACK INSIDE PACKED BANQUET HALL
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting unfolded inside the hall, which sits in a commercial complex shared with other businesses. Families, including children, were attending a private event when the assailants entered and began firing.
Heather Brent, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, confirmed that both children and adults were among the victims. Several of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials have not yet released details on their conditions.
TARGETED STRIKE SUSPECTED
While the motive remains unclear, investigators said preliminary findings point to a targeted assault rather than a random act of violence. Detectives spent the night combing through the scene, collecting evidence and speaking to witnesses who fled in panic when shots rang out.
INVESTIGATION IN EARLY STAGES
The area remained sealed off through the night as deputies continued their search for leads. Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified suspects, and the sheriff’s office said detectives are working to establish how many shooters were involved.
