Photos: Global trade shifts as Trump’s new tariffs take effect

US President Donald Trump’s latest wave of tariffs on imports from dozens of countries took effect on Thursday, marking a major move in his drive to reshape global trade.

The new duties, imposed at midnight, cover products from 66 nations as well as the European Union, Taiwan and the Falkland Islands.

Targeting a broad range of goods, the tariffs are central to Trump’s economic strategy of cutting the US trade deficit, shielding domestic industries and pressuring trade partners into striking more favorable deals for American businesses.
