Denmark shuts Aalborg airport over drones amid Europe-wide alerts

Denmark’s Aalborg Airport is currently closed after drones were spotted in its airspace, a spokesperson confirmed late Wednesday. The shutdown comes just two days after Copenhagen Airport, the country’s busiest, was forced to halt flights due to similar drone activity that sent ripples across European aviation.

On Tuesday, Danish authorities described the Copenhagen incident — which grounded flights for four hours — as the most serious attack yet on critical infrastructure in the country. Officials linked the disruption to a wave of suspected Russian drone incursions and other incidents across Europe.

Norway also faced a drone-related disruption on Monday, temporarily closing the airspace at Oslo Airport for three hours. Norwegian and Danish authorities are coordinating closely over the Copenhagen and Oslo events. However, Norway’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that no direct link has yet been established between the two incidents.

Eurocontrol, the body that oversees European air traffic, said arrivals and departures at Aalborg Airport would be at a “zero rate” until 0400 GMT on Thursday due to drone activity in the area.

Police in Aalborg confirmed on social media platform X that drones had been sighted near the airport and said an investigation is underway. The airport spokesperson declined to specify how many drones were involved.

At least four flights were affected, including two SAS planes, one Norwegian Airlines flight, and one KLM flight, Reuters reported.
