Donald Trump says Democrats using Epstein hoax to deflect from shutdown chaos

US President Donald Trump has accused Democrats of weaponizing the Jeffrey Epstein case to deflect from what he called their failure to resolve the government shutdown — dismissing newly released Epstein emails mentioning him as a political hoax.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects.”

“Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap,” he wrote.

He went on to accuse Democrats of “costing our country $1.5 trillion” through what he called their “antics of viciously closing our country,” and insisted they should “pay a fair price” for the damage caused.

Trump urged Republican lawmakers not to get drawn into renewed discussions about Epstein, the disgraced financier whose case has resurfaced in political and media circles following the release of court documents mentioning several high-profile names.

“There should be no deflections to Epstein or anything else,” Trump said, calling on his party to stay united. “Republicans should be focused only on opening up our country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!”

The post followed the release of emails by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee that referenced Trump in correspondence between Epstein and his associates. In one 2019 email, Epstein told journalist Michael Wolff that Trump knew about the girls, though no evidence has surfaced to suggest the president had knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.

White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, condemned the disclosures as a manufactured hoax, accusing Democrats of selectively leaking documents to smear President Trump. She said the emails prove absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong.

Leavitt added that Trump had banned Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club decades ago, calling the disgraced financier a pedophile and a creep.

“The fact remains that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club for being inappropriate with female staff. Any American with common sense sees through this distraction,” Leavitt said.

The newly released emails, drawn from 23,000 documents handed over by Epstein’s estate, appeared to raise questions about Trump’s past social ties to Epstein, though even Epstein’s accuser, Virginia Giuffre, had long insisted that Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing.

In her deposition and memoir, Giuffre said Trump couldn’t have been friendlier and had never acted improperly toward her. Trump, for his part, has repeatedly denied any connection to Epstein’s criminal activities, telling reporters last year that he “threw Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago for trying to recruit his staff.
