Mossad claims Hamas terror cells plotted ‘on command’ attacks from Vienna to Berlin

Israel’s spy agency Mossad has claimed that it has successfully dismantled a major Hamas terrorist infrastructure operating across Europe. The agency said the network was set up to carry out attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets on the continent, acting on instructions from the group’s leadership.

The operation involved a series of complex, coordinated efforts across Europe, including in Germany and Austria, and resulted in the arrest of multiple terrorist operatives as well as the discovery and seizure of weapons caches, according to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office.

The weapons were allegedly intended for use by terrorist cells to target innocent civilians “on the day the order is given,” underscoring the immediate and lethal threat posed by the network, the statement added.

The agency added that it is also examining the possible involvement of Hamas operatives in Turkey in facilitating planned attacks, some of which have already been uncovered. It further alleged that Hamas’s leadership in Qatar is also involved in directing the network operating in Europe.

According to Mossad, a key breakthrough occurred in the Austrian capital Vienna last September during a special operation in which authorities uncovered a hidden cache containing handguns and explosive devices. The subsequent investigation revealed that the weapons belonged to Hamas operative Muhammad Na’im, the son of Basem Na’im, a senior member of the Hamas Political Bureau abroad and a close associate of Gaza-based Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya.

The spy agency alleged that Muhammad Na’im was responsible for building terrorist infrastructure in Europe, in coordination with his father.

“As part of the investigation that exposed Muhammad Na’im’s responsibility for building the terrorist infrastructure in Vienna, additional information emerged regarding a meeting held in Qatar between him and his father, Basem Na’im, a senior Hamas leader, last September. The meeting between the two at that time indicates a possible involvement of the Hamas leadership in promoting terrorism in Europe, with authorisation for the movement’s operatives to advance terrorism with authority and sanction,” it said.

According to officials, this is not the first time evidence has emerged indicating the involvement of Hamas leadership based in Qatar in facilitating terrorist activity, despite repeated public denials by the group aimed at preserving its image before international audiences.

“Since the October 7 massacre, the Hamas terrorist organisation has been working with renewed vigour to build infrastructure and recruit terrorist cells in Europe and other arenas, similar to the Iranian regime and its proxies,” it added.

The multinational probe is now actively examining the potential involvement of Hamas elements worldwide, Mossad claimed.
