Donald Trump vows to release John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr assassination files
US President-elect Donald Trump said that he would release classified documents in the upcoming days linked to the assassinations of former US president John F Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy and civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.
“In the coming days, we are going to make public remaining records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other topics of great public interest,” Trump was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters at a rally in Washington.
However, Trump did not specify which documents would be released, and he did not promise a blanket declassification.
Notably, Trump had released 2,800 documents related to JFK’s assassination during his previous term as the President. But he had yielded to pressure from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and blocked the release of several other files, citing national security concerns.
