Ukraine peace talks in London made significant progress: UK government

Britain said that talks held in London on Wednesday made “significant progress” toward forming a common position on the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The discussions brought together officials from Ukraine, the United States, the UK, France, and Germany to coordinate steps toward peace.

“The talks today were productive and successful, and significant progress was made on reaching a common position on next steps,” ” a foreign office spokesperson said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.

The meeting included US President Donald Trump’s Ukraine envoy, Keith Kellogg, who described the dialogue with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, as positive. “It’s time to move forward on President Trump’s UKR-RU war directive: stop the killing, achieve peace, and put America First,” Kellogg posted on X.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that the London talks were emotional but remains hopeful that continued cooperation would lead to peace.

“Emotions have run high today. But it is good that 5 countries met to bring peace closer,” he wrote on X, adding that Ukraine would remain committed to its constitution and territorial integrity.

“Ukraine and other Europeans presented their inputs. And we hope that it is exactly such joint work that will lead to lasting peace. We are grateful to partners,” he said.

The main issue in the talks is Crimea. Zelenskyy refuses to recognize Russian control over the region, calling it Ukrainian land. This disagreement is making peace negotiations more difficult.

His firm stance drew criticism from President Trump, who argued that such refusal was complicating efforts to negotiate peace. “There is nothing to talk about — it is our land, the land of the Ukrainian people,” Zelenskyy responded.
