Israel launched a wave of airstrikes on Iran on Friday, targeting nuclear facilities, ballistic missile factories, and senior military commanders in what it described as the start of a prolonged campaign to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Explosions were reported across Iran, including at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, according to Iranian media and eyewitnesses. Israel, meanwhile, declared a state of emergency, bracing for expected missile and drone retaliation.

An Israeli military official said dozens of nuclear and military sites were hit, including Natanz, and warned that Iran had enough fissile material to assemble up to 15 nuclear bombs within days.

Alongside the air assault, Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency carried out covert sabotage operations inside Iran, targeting strategic missile installations and air defence systems, a senior Israeli official told Axios.
