Pakistan Defence Minister Asif Munir says drones were not intercepted to avoid leaking our locations

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, under immense pressure after India neutralised all their drones on May 8 and thwarted an attempt to target border cities, made yet another bizarre remark at the National Assembly on Friday.

The minister said that Pakistani forces deliberately chose not to intercept Indian drones during recent cross-border strikes to avoid revealing their own military locations.

“Yesterday’s drone attack was basically done to detect our locations. It is a technical thing. I can’t explain it like that. And that is why we did not intercept those drones so that our locations don’t get leaked,” he said.

Asif claimed the drones were meant to “detect our positions,” and intercepting them prematurely would have risked exposing sensitive sites. “We shot them down only when they entered a safe limit,” he added.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari shared the video on X and wrote, “Khawaja Asif has lost it completely. ‘We didn’t intercept Indian drones because we didn’t want to leak our locations,’ says Pakistan’s Defence Minister. When Indian missiles hit, even your missile defence locations get exposed — not by your choice, but by India’s precision.”

India carried out drone attacks at several locations in Pakistan in retaliation to missile attacks targeted by the latter on Thursday. India successfully foiled Pakistan’s attacks and shot down their F-16 fighter jet and possibly two JF-17 jets, along with intercepting other projectiles.
