FBI agents search former Trump adviser John Bolton’s home day after he slammed tariffs on India: Report

The FBI conducted raids on the residence of John Bolton, the former security adviser of Donald Trump, a day after he criticised the eccentric US President’s handling of ties with India and his imposition of punitive tariffs.

A source told AP that the searches were in connection with an investigation into the handling of classified documents. However, the former Trump aide was not detained and has so far not been charged.

The raids come a day after Bolton, in an interview, called Trump an “aberrational president” while castigating him over his tariff policies. He also pointed out that US-India ties were currently “in a very bad place”.

“It turns out that Russia has not faced any new sanctions. China has not faced any new sanctions, notwithstanding the fact that they were the major purchasers of Russian oil and gas. India has been singled out,” Bolton said in the interview.

Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on India and slapped an additional 25% levy over its continued purchase of Russia oil – a revenue source the US says is sustaining Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

“Leaving India hanging out to dry as the only country on which punitive action has been taken obviously leads a lot of people to conclude that the US has given up on India, and I do worry that India is being driven closer to Russia and China,” he further said.
