Israel strikes Gaza’s Nuseirat despite ceasefire, foils alleged terror plot

The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it carried out an airstrike in central Gaza, targeting an alleged Islamic Jihad member. The strike, which took place in the Nuseirat area, reportedly aimed to stop a planned attack against Israeli forces. The operation took place despite a ceasefire deal brokered by US President Donald Trump.

The military added that “IDF troops in the Southern Command are deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat”. However, Hamas did not immediately comment on the claim.

The airstrike comes at a time when a fragile ceasefire is in force between Israel and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip, although both sides have accused each other of violations.
