Man charged after stabbing on Charlotte train, Trump blames Democrats

Police in North Carolina’s Charlotte have charged a 33-year-old man after a stabbing on a city commuter train left another person critically injured.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Oscar Solorzano was charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking a rider with a large knife on Friday afternoon.

The victim was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in critical but stable condition.

A magistrate’s filing states that Solorzano is in the US unlawfully and has previously been deported. He is being held without bond ahead of a scheduled court appearance on Monday.

An arrest warrant said he appeared intoxicated during the encounter and provoked the victim into a fight. Court records show no attorney listed for him.

US President Donald Trump reacted to the incident on his Truth Social account, criticising local leadership and linking the incident to immigration issues.

“Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!”

Officials also noted Solorzano-Garcia’s prior criminal history, which includes arrests for violent and obstructive offenses, as well as previous removals from the US Immigration authorities have issued a detainer in an effort to prevent his release, while expressing concern about local cooperation with federal enforcement.

Homeland security officials have recently deployed additional resources to North Carolina for a targeted operation focused on individuals residing in the state without legal status who have criminal records. Authorities say hundreds of federal detainers in the state have gone unfulfilled in recent years.

The incident follows another violent attack on the Charlotte rail system less than four months ago, when 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed in what authorities described as a random assault captured on video.

The suspect in that case, Decarlos Brown Jr., faces state murder charges and a federal indictment related to causing a death on mass transit.
