Man on bicycle opens fire near Harvard, university issues shelter-in-place order; manhunt launched
Harvard University briefly went into lockdown on Friday evening after a man on a bicycle reportedly opened fire near its campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, prompting an hour-long shelter-in-place order and a police manhunt.
Cambridge Police said the incident occurred on Sherman Street, close to Danehy Park and near the university’s Radcliffe Quad. Officers responding to reports of gunfire recovered ballistic evidence from the scene but said there were no known injuries.
The university issued an emergency alert around the time of the shooting, saying the suspect was believed to be cycling toward Garden Street and possibly Harvard Square. Students and staff were advised to avoid the Quad area and remain indoors.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
