Marco Rubio reaffirms Trump’s India-Pak truce claim, calls him ‘president of peace’

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed that the United States “got involved directly” when India and Pakistan were on the brink of war, crediting President Donald Trump with helping to restore peace between the two nuclear-armed nations.

Since May 10, Trump has repeatedly claimed that he played a key role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, offering the prospect of expanded trade ties in return for halting hostilities.

However, India has consistently maintained that the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan was achieved through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries.

Speaking to EWTN’s The World Over on Thursday, Rubio said Trump was deeply committed to peace and being the “president of peace”. “When India and Pakistan went to war, we got involved directly, and the president was able to deliver on that peace,” he said.

Rubio also said that other international conflicts he claimed the Trump administration helped address, including tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and the decades-long strife between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Referring to the DRC-Rwanda conflict, Rubio said: “A 30-year war, 7 million people killed – we were able to bring them here to sign it.”

He added that the US takes pride in such peace efforts and is continuing to pursue others, particularly the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

“We dedicate a significant amount of time to stopping and ending wars,” Rubio said.
