MBS gets royal welcome as Saudi prince arrives at White House for Trump meet

US President Donald Trump welcomed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the White House. The two were asked about the future of the US-Saudi partnership and the broader strategic outlook.

Bin Salman described the relationship as “critical” across political, economic, security, and military domains. He said that his two-day visit marks the beginning of a “major new chapter” in bilateral ties.

Trump added that he was meeting with the “future King,” calling the crown prince a man “respected by everybody.” He emphasised that neither leader was obligated to speak to the press, saying there has “never been transparency like this.”

Reiterating the strength of the partnership, Trump called the US–Saudi relationship “top of the line.” He said Saudi Arabia trusts the United States-which is why it has invested heavily-and added, “we trust them.”

Moments later, Trump suggested that relations were not strong under either Biden or Obama, but said they are “excellent” with him.
