New Hampshire man convicted of murdering, dismembering wife on anniversary

The incident took place when Joseph Ferlazzo killed his wife Emily Jean Schwarz, 22, during a trip to Bolton in 2021 and dismembered her body.

Ferlazzo, who hails from New Hampshire, has been convicted by a Vermont jury.

According to a report in People.com, Schwarz’s family had filed a missing report after Ferlazzo, 41, returned from the trip without her. He reportedly claimed that he had an argument with her, following which his wife stormed off.

Later, Ferlazzo confessed to the murder during the investigation and told the police that he killed his wife inside their vehicle.

The couple had taken their RV to the trip. The vehicle was later found by the police. Cops also found Schwarz’s dismembered body parts inside the RV.

The husband told the court that he cut his wife’s leg with a knife but does not recall stabbing her. “It made me sick,” he said on the stand.

Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George stated that the jury rejected Ferlazzo’s self-defense claim, as they found his statements inconsistent with the evidence presented during the trial, according to NBC 5.

Following the verdict, Schwarz’s mother, Adrienne Bass, expressed relief, saying, “The verdict couldn’t be any better… For me, it was really just relief and feeling like we got the justice that Emily deserves.”

In an obituary after her death, Schwarz was remembered as a “beautiful, aspiring singer” with an “infectious personality.”

It further read that Emily dreamt of becoming a cosmetologist and to help make people feel good about themselves, something she herself struggled with from time to time.
