Pahalgam terror attack: Pakistan reacts to attack, says concerned at tourist deaths, extend condolences

Pakistan reacted to the terror attack a day after 3–4 terrorists killed at least 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon. The targeted firing happened in a popular tourist zone bustling with visitors, many of whom had gathered for photos in the scenic backdrop. Responding to media queries concerning the attack, the Pakistan Foreign Office said it is concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives.

“We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district. We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” the spokesperson said.

At least 26 persons — mostly tourists — were killed by terrorists on Tuesday at the Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam in one of the worst terror attacks on civilians in Kashmir in the past many years.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday laid wreaths on the bodies of the terror attack victims, and assured the survivors that the accused of the dastardly act would be brought to justice.

Amit Shah laid the wreaths on the coffins of the victims of the terror attack at the Police Control Room in Srinagar.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid their tributes to the victims.

The Home Minister later interacted with families of the slain persons and other survivors of the attack.

He assured them the security forces would leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of the deadly attack to the book.

Shah arrived here within hours of the attack on Wednesday night and was briefed about the situation by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat.

The Home Minister also chaired a security review meeting, which was also attended by the Lieutenant Governor.
