Smartphones, laptops, chips exempted from Trump’s reciprocal tariffs

The Donald Trump administration has announced that smartphones, laptops, and semiconductor chips will be exempted from the newly imposed reciprocal tariffs, news agency Bloomberg reported, citing a US Customs and Border Protection notice.

The move, which came after the Trump administration imposed a minimum tariff rate of 145 per cent on Chinese goods, is expected to have a major impact on tech giants like Apple, which make iPhones and other products in China.

The exclusions apply to products entering the US or removed from warehouses as early as April 5, according to the notice issued on Friday.
