Police-involved shooting in York County prompts lockdowns, school shelter orders
State officials said on Wednesday that a police-involved shooting occurred in southern Pennsylvania. Atleast 2 have been seriously injured from the incident.
“Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County,” Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis wrote on social media. “As we learn more, follow all guidance from police and stay away from the area.”
Gov. Josh Shapiro said he has been “briefed on the situation involving law enforcement in York County” and was heading to the scene in North Codorus Township.
Attorney General Dave Sunday confirmed he is also on his way to the area amid the “ongoing situation.”
The Spring Grove Area School District reported that all schools are sheltering in place “due to an officer-involved incident in our area.” The district emphasised that the incident does not involve its schools or students.
“Local authorities have advised us to hold students and staff in our buildings as a precaution while several area roads are closed,” the district said in a statement.
WellSpan Hospital in York was also placed on lockdown because of what the outlet described as a “police shooting.”
Gov. Shapiro urged people in the area to comply with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
“I’ve been briefed on the situation involving law enforcement in York County, and am on my way there now,” he wrote on X shortly before 3:30 p.m.
“We ask those in the area to please follow the directions of local law enforcement and @PAStatePolice.”
