‘Rewrite the Rules’: Trump Store sells 2028 hats, teasing third presidential term

The Trump Organization’s online store has launched a new $50 red cap boldly embroidered with “Trump 2028”, fueling speculation — and controversy — over Trump’s repeated hints at seeking a third term in office.

“The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat,” read the initial product description on the website before it was later toned down. The revised listing now calls it: “A statement piece… made in America… your new go-to hat,” reports New York Post.

The hats are not being sold by Trump’s official campaign but through the Trump Organization, his family-run business.

The message behind the merchandise appears to riff on the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution, which states unequivocally:

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

However, in a March interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Trump said that he’s “not joking” about a possible third term.

“A lot of people want me to do it,” he told the interviewer. “We have a long way to go it’s very early in the administration.”

That statement came shortly after he returned to the White House for a second term following his 2024 election win.

From “Make Greenland Great Again” tees to Trump-branded Bibles, sneakers, and cologne, Trump’s commercialization of political branding has become a hallmark of his movement. The new “Trump 2028” hat is just the latest item in what critics say is a merchandising blitz that sometimes blurs the line between satire and serious intent. According to Axios, the Trump campaign has leaned heavily on thematic merch to energize its base — with references to crypto (“DOGE”), foreign policy ambitions (“Gulf of America”), and now, potential constitutional revisions.

Political analysts interpret the ‘Trump 2028’ hat not just as merchandise, but as a signal to supporters who believe he could or should challenge the presidential two-term limit—a feat only achieved by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
