Bob Lee murder case: Nima Momeni’s sentencing set for May 2025

Nima Momeni, the man convicted of murdering CashApp founder Bob Lee, is set to be sentenced on May 16, 2025.

Momeni, 40, has been in custody since his arrest in April 2023, when he was initially charged with first-degree murder. In December 2024, a jury convicted him of second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Lee, finding him not guilty of the more serious charge of premeditated first-degree murder. He now faces a sentence of 16 years to life in prison.

During a hearing on Friday, Momeni’s mother was present in the courtroom, while Krista Lee and Oliver Lee — the ex-wife and son of Bob Lee—attended remotely. Juror No. 1 was also present in the courtroom.

Background on the case

Bob Lee, 43, was the creator of CashApp and served as the Chief Product Officer of MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency company. At the time of his death, he had moved to Miami from the San Francisco Bay Area, where his ex-wife and children reside. He had returned to California for a visit when the fatal incident occurred.

According to investigators, Momeni stabbed Lee with a kitchen knife on April 4, 2023, following a heated argument about Momeni’s sister’s relationship with Lee and their ongoing drug use.

Momeni will face sentencing on May 16, 2025, where a judge will determine his prison term based on the second-degree murder conviction.
