PM Modi holds bilateral talks with US NSA Michael Waltz in Washington

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a bilateral meeting with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at Blair House in Washington, ahead of his meetings with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and India’s NSA Ajit Doval were also present at the meeting Walts.

Earlier today, PM Modi met Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence, and discussed various aspects of ties between the two countries with focused on enhancing intelligence cooperation in counter-terrorism and emerging threats.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in the US on Wednesday after a visit to France where he had co-chaired the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. Upon his arrival at Blair House, the President’s Guest House, the Prime Minister received a rousing welcome from members of the Indian-American community.

Modi and Trump will hold bilateral discussions at the White House on Thursday. Both leaders are set to sign a new defense framework, along with discussions on free trade. The issues of tariffs and immigration may also be discussed in the bilateral meetings.

“Our nations will keep working closely for the benefit of our people and for a better future for our planet,” the Prime Minister said ahead of the meeting.

Prime Minister Modi is the fourth foreign leader hosted by Trump in the weeks after his inauguration last month. Within less than a month of the start of Trump’s second term in the White House, he has hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
