Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee hike faces legal challenge in US Court

A lawsuit has been filed in the United States challenging President Donald Trump’s proposal to impose a $100,000 one-time fee for new H-1B visas, which are designated for highly skilled foreign workers. A coalition of unions, employers, and religious groups filed the suit, the first legal challenge to the proclamation. Previously, employers paid between $2,000 and $5,000 to sponsor these visas. The lawsuit’s central argument is that President Trump does not have the constitutional authority to impose such a fee, stating that this power is reserved for Congress. The groups contend the move transforms the H-1B system into a “‘pay to play'” program. The legal action seeks to block the fee, arguing that federal agencies also implemented the proclamation without following proper procedures.
